The short answer

Sweton is an Indian loudspeaker brand manufactured by Octune Electronics LLP in Kolkata, West Bengal, in continuous production since 1982. It builds both home audio drivers and professional audio transducers — 12 W to 6,000 W program power — publishes the test conditions behind every specification, and supplies a recommended enclosure design with the driver.

Every company selling loudspeakers in India will tell you it makes good ones. That is not information. So instead of adjectives, here is what we actually do, with the numbers and the standards attached, so you can check any of it or hold it up against whatever else you are considering.

What Sweton is, in plain facts

Sweton is the brand. Octune Electronics LLP is the company that manufactures it. The plant and the corporate office are both in Kolkata. We have been making transducers since 1982, which as of this year is more than four decades of continuous production under the same name.

Verified credentials

Octune Electronics LLP holds ISO 9001 certification under licence 2018-50459. It is an Associate Member of FICCI, and a member of the All India Electronics Association (Eastern Zone) and the Indian Chamber of Commerce.     1We publish the conditions behind every specification

This is the first thing to check about any speaker manufacturer, including us, and it is the thing almost nobody in this market will show you.

All six are on the test standard page of this website, permanently, for anyone including our competitors. Nominal power to AES2-1984. Program power defined as 3 dB above nominal. 2.83 V RMS at 8 ohms. Thiele-Small parameters taken after 25 Hz high-level preconditioning for four to eight hours. X-max by mechanical excursion. Response and impedance on CLIO 12.5.

The preconditioning line is the one worth understanding. A brand-new suspension is stiff, and if you measure a driver before it has been worked, the resonance figure comes out flattering. Running it hard for four to eight hours first gives you numbers that describe the driver as it will behave in a cabinet, not as it behaves on its first day. Publishing how long we run it for is a small thing, and it is the kind of small thing that tells you whether the rest of the sheet was taken honestly.

When you are comparing us with anyone else, ask them for the equivalent page. A specification with no stated test behind it is not a specification. It is a number somebody chose.

    2Both ranges come from one manufacturer

Sweton is among the very few Indian brands carrying a full in-house professional range and a full in-house home range. That is unusual, and it matters in specific situations rather than in general.

If you are a venue owner fitting out a lobby system and a stage PA, or a fabricator building for both markets, or a dealer who would rather hold one supplier account than four, everything comes from one factory tested under one set of conditions. Specifications are comparable across the catalogue because they were taken the same way.

    3The recommended cabinet comes with the driver

A driver is a component, not a loudspeaker. What you finally hear is decided jointly by the driver and by the volume, tuning and porting of the box around it. A very good driver in a badly proportioned cabinet will lose to an ordinary driver in a correct one, every time, and the fabricator usually finds this out after the first event.

So we treat the enclosure as part of the product rather than as something for the customer to work out. Send us the application, the output you are trying to reach and the size you have to build within, and the recommendation comes back with the model — sealed or vented, internal volume, port tuning, and a dimensioned drawing your carpenter can cut from.

This is the part of what we do that is hardest to see on a price list and makes the largest difference to how the finished system sounds.

    4The engineering is done here, not copied

Sweton runs its own R&D function in Kolkata for new products and for revising existing ones. Motor and suspension behaviour is characterised on a Klippel measurement system, magnetic circuits are modelled before they are cut, and frequency response and impedance are measured on CLIO. Every unit that leaves the plant has been through quality-control testing first.

The practical consequence for a buyer is repeatability. When you order the same model again next season, you are getting the same driver, because the parameters are measured and held rather than eyeballed. For a rental operator running a matched inventory across several cabinets, that consistency is worth more than any single specification on the sheet.

    5Made in India, and serviced in India

An imported driver that fails in the middle of a season is a long, expensive silence. Ours are made here, which changes several practical things at once: spares and replacements come from Kolkata rather than through a shipping timeline, the technical conversation happens in your language and your time zone, and a driver bought five years ago is still a driver we recognise and can support.

    6Forty-plus years of the same people making the same thing

Sweton has been in continuous production since 1982. That is not a marketing line, it is the reason the older half of our customer base exists — dealers who have stocked the brand for two decades and fabricators who bought their first woofer from us before they had a workshop.

Longevity in this business is mostly a proxy for two things: that the product survived contact with real use, and that the company was still there when someone needed a spare. Both are worth checking about any supplier you are considering, including this one.

When Sweton is not the right choice

There are jobs we are not the right supplier for, and it saves everyone time to say so.

• If you want a finished, powered, ready-to-use speaker box, we are not it. We build transducers and components. You or your fabricator build the cabinet — with our design, but it is still a build.
• If your decision is being made purely on the lowest sticker price, without comparing test standards, coil diameter or sensitivity, you will find cheaper drivers than ours. You will also find that comparison meaningless, which is the actual problem.
• If you need a size, impedance or winding that is not in our catalogue and you need it next week, a custom run takes longer than that. Ask us early and it is usually possible; ask us late and it is not.
• If you are building a critical-listening studio monitor and want third-party published distortion measurements before you commit, ask us for the specific data first rather than assuming. Some of it exists, some of it does not.

We would rather lose an order at the enquiry stage than at the venue.
